I Probably Should Have Mentioned This
August 28th, 2009 by Tom Johnson
I’m vacationing this week, so posting will be light and irresponsible. We’re visiting friends a few hundreds yards from salt water and drinking good wine. Last night: 2002 Opus 1 and 2007 Flowers Pinot Noir. Also some Uruguayan rosé on the beach itself as the sun went down and the tide rolled in. I may [...]

Party Pooper
August 25th, 2009 by Tom Johnson
A physician and wine writer disputes the heart health claims made for wine: People know that alcohol – and wine – can cause liver disease. But since the headline-making “60 Minutes” segment in 1991 popularizing the seductively simple French Paradox (the French eat a high-fat diet but have less heart disease because they drink red [...]

Comment Spam Update/Cheap Comedy
August 22nd, 2009 by Tom Johnson
For some reason, most of the comment spam I’m getting is in French. Comment spam numbers are down though, which is a good sign, and I’m thinking that since only the French are left spamming LouJu, it won’t be long before I can get the spammers to run up the white flag.

Walla Walla Wine Weport
August 20th, 2009 by Tom Johnson
Washington state is expecting a record crop this year, perhaps oddly affected by the mid-Summer heat wave. Since I wrote about the heat wave, temperatures have dropped — leading me to wonder if I might have powers beyond those of mortal men. Grape growers are saying the vintage has the potential to be great. Grape-growers [...]
