It’s That Time of Year Again
They’re setting up for the Kentucky Derby Wine Festival — perhaps paradoxically, the Derby event where people drink the least.
The schmooztastic wine tasting is April 27 and 28, from 5 to 9 PM. It will be held in and around a giant tent being erected on the Overlook, just to the left (if approaching by land) of the waterfront Great Lawn. It’s a wonderful location for many reasons, only one of which is the gravel surface is highly absorbent. So, please, sip, swish and spit to your heart’s content.
Participating Kentucky and Indiana wineries include: Acres of Land, Broad Run, Chrisman Mille, Elk Creek, Equus Run, Horseshoe Bend, Huber’s, Indian Creek, Lover’s Leap, Orchard Creek, River Bend, StoneBrook and Wight-Myer.
Tickets are $35. Buy them in advance at The Melting Pot and they’ll throw in valet parking at no extra charge.

Can I make a shameless plus here for our DrinkLocalWine.com conference, featuring Virginia and Maryland wine, April 25 in Loudoun County, Va.?
