Celebrity Wine Update: Really Desperate Housewives
As reported previously, Real Housewives of New York demi-celebrity Ramona Singer is delving into the wine business, belching forth a Pinot Grigio aimed at precisely the demographic most likely to 1) drink Pinot Grigio and 2) be influenced by what they see on basic cable.
To the right is a photograph of Singer making a glamorous guest appearance in front of a pile of her unsold wine at a local Bottle King. She’s posing with what looks to be a passing Eskimo, out of the igloo for an afternoon of discount shopping and furtive drinking. She’s propping her befuddled spawn next to the wine-endorsing cultural artifact for a photo I’m sure the kid will always cherish.
“Who is that again, mommy?”
“I don’t remember. That’s back before everything was videoed, when people thought being on television was special. All I remember is they gave me free wine — and believe me, I needed it. You were hell at that age.”
The 2010 vintage arrived at stores timed to coincide with the premier of still another season of RHONY. If you have any doubts about the drinking habits of that show’s viewers, consider this press release:
Be sure to get a case of Ramona Pinot Grigio in time for the premiere, so you can sip along with Ramona while watching the show.
If you’d like to “reserve” a case to drink sullenly in front of the television while you imagine yourself leading a life of something other than bitter drudgery with your good-for-nothing husband who is, at this very minute, downloading porn in the basement…or if you’d just like to buy a few bottles to sock away in the closet for drinking when no one is looking, click here.
The Ramona, which is imported by Opici Wines (motto: “A sure thing since 1934″), runs $14 a bottle. Or, if you can drink without a celebrity endorsement, you can buy a similarly manufactured, Opici-imported Pinot Grigio for $8.50 here.
NOTE: In my previous entry on Real Housewives wine, I erroneously reported Singer as a participant in Real Housewives of New Jersey. I would go back and correct my error, but really: who cares?
