Haitian Relief Dinner at The Seelbach

January 19th, 2010 by Tom Johnson

Wine’s not included so you’ll have to make-do by ordering off the best list in town. On the other hand, proceeds go to Haitian relief, so keeping costs down by making you pay for your own drinks is the right thing to do, and anyone who complains will be flayed.
The theme is suitably Caribbean and the [...]

How Can Something So Hot Be So Cool?

January 15th, 2010 by Tom Johnson

Glassworks is offering a Blow Your Own Wineglass workshop. Participants learn the rudiments of glass-blowing, and then design and blow their own glass — with sufficient help from experienced glass artists to keep from burning themselves to fritters.
When the glass cools off, they take it home and — presumably — drink out of it.
The workshop [...]

You Really Need to Get Out

January 12th, 2010 by Tom Johnson

4 Flights Wine Boutique resumes its regular, free Tuesday night tastings. They took a little break after hosting, like, 300 tastings over the holiday. But they’re back.
I’m not recovered enough from the holidays, myself, to track down the details. “Value wines” is the theme, but admit it: you don’t really care. You need to fight [...]

January 5th, 2010 by Tom Johnson

The action’s a little slow around town this week, but Thursday night Westport Whiskey & Wine comes through with a “Warm Wines for Cold Nights” tasting. Tawny and Ruby Ports, some big reds and a couple of snow-appropriate Winter whites.
To entice you out of your Winter lethargy, WW&W is rolling back the tasting fee to [...]

Globetrotter Dinner at Lilly’s

December 16th, 2009 by Tom Johnson

A little something from everywhere, with wine!
First Course: Senagalese pulled chicken with home-made pita, served with Two Oceans Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa.
Second Course: Tilapia with green olives, capers and chiles, served with Callia Alta Torrontés. Torrontés is a white Argentine grape that makes a crisp, aromatic wine. It’s related to Malvasia, which is one of [...]

Argentine Wine Dinner to Feature Extremely Rare Wine

December 11th, 2009 by Tom Johnson

60 West Bistro in St. Matthews is hosting a four-course dinner featuring wine from Argentina (motto: it’s not all Malbec, you know) Monday, December 14.
The dinner features regular stuff (Malbec) but also Finca el Reposo Saint Jeannet, a wine made from the mysterious Saint Jeannet grape. Saint Jeannett is a white grape of unclear origin. [...]
