I Go Out of Town for a Couple of Days and…
November 10th, 2009 by Tom Johnson
…I get 567 spam comments. For those of you new to Louisville Juice, I screen comments before they post because of huge comment spam outbreaks. Once you’re approved, comments you post from that computer should post immediately. I went to Chicago to visit friends and go to see the Bears play. The friends were perfectly [...]

Just in case you’re wondering why posts have been so sparse.

Just When You Think It’s Safe…
October 7th, 2009 by Tom Johnson
Huge comment spam today. I’ve spent most of the afternoon deleting, turning comments on and off, swearing oaths agains the Internet gods. If my regular reader has trouble posting comments, I’m sorry. I like comments, really, even when the basic message is that I’m a boob. Just yesterday I noted that I had reeived no [...]

I Probably Should Have Mentioned This
August 28th, 2009 by Tom Johnson
I’m vacationing this week, so posting will be light and irresponsible. We’re visiting friends a few hundreds yards from salt water and drinking good wine. Thanks to you for reading, and thanks to the wineblogs and newsletter that have linked to us. If there’s [...]

Spam Update
August 17th, 2009 by Tom Johnson
Turning the comments off to highly spammed postings is working wonders. Last week’s spam total was down 90%, which gets me close to the point where I’ll let comments go up without moderation. Close, but no cigar. Maybe soon, though. Be patient with me.

It’s Going To Get Worse Before It Gets Better
August 8th, 2009 by Tom Johnson
As should be obvious to regular readers, i’m screwing around with the format of the blog. As of right now, the header is missing and comments are goofy. I’ll get it fixed before dinner, and for my trouble will have a marginally improved blog.

Whine That Goes Well With Spam
August 4th, 2009 by Tom Johnson
I’m trying a new strategy on comment spam. I’ve shut off comments on the posts most frequently spammed — posts that are fairly old anyway. Also, as a reminder to my new reader: the first time you comment, I have to approve your comment before it will post. After you’re cleared once, your comments will [...]

A New Metric
July 27th, 2009 by Tom Johnson
I’m thinking of tracking not just the standard information about traffic at this blog, but also spam statistics. It’s been a busy morning; there must be warehouses filled with Levitra in parts of the world where people don’t write English particularly well, waiting to be sold. The offers keep pouring in.
